ASUU is Still Consulting on the Matter with its Members - ASUU President Speaks Over NLC Strike
In a telephone interview with THE WHISTLER on Monday, ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, confirmed that the
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is currently consulting its members regarding the NLC strike matter. Despite the ongoing consultations, he emphasized that ASUU is a part of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and intends to join the planned action by the group.
ASUU's Solidarity with NLC
Prof. Osodeke asserted, "We are still consulting with our members, but we are members of NLC, so it is definite. If NLC
says there will be a demonstration, we are members with them, so we will definitely join." This clear statement highlights the unity and support between ASUU and NLC in addressing issues that impact the Nigerian people.
The Nationwide Action by NLC
Last week, THE WHISTLER</em> reported that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) is set to embark on "a nationwide
action" to compel the government to reverse certain recent policies that have adversely affected citizens. The NLC's
demands include the immediate reversal of all anti-poor policies implemented by the federal government. These policies encompass the increase in the price of fuel, the surge in Public School fees, the release of the 8 months withheld salary of university lecturers and workers, and the increase in VAT (Value Added Tax).
